Charity Movie Festival featuring “Gifted” on June 30, 2018

Please join our next Charity Movie Festival featuring "Gifted"(an American movie). The movie is about a highly-gifted 7-year-old girl who becomes the subject of a custody battle between her uncle and grandmother over what is best for her future.  This premier movie makes us think what is best for the child and family, We will also be holding a charity bazar in which social welfare workshops will participate. The next charity movie festival on 13 October 2017, “A Man Called Ove”

We will be screening “A Man Called Ove” (a Swedish movie) in our next charity movie festival in October. Through descriptions of warm-hearted and comical interactions between neighbors, the movie reveals there is a story and a sadness behind an isolated angry old man, Ove. Lingering, it reminds us to cherish people around us. We will also be holding a charity bazar in which social welfare workshops will participate too. Charity Movie Festival “The Violin Teacher”, 3 June 2017

We held our 74th charity movie and bazaar on June 3rd at the Hitotsubashi Hall. Blessed with great weather, almost 800 people came to the event. Supported by 46 volunteers, our bazar ended a great success. We would like to express hearty thanks to all individuals and organizations for their understanding and supports, as well as to all participants of our event.

New Year Charity Concert – String Quartet “Quartet SISLEY”

We held a charity classic concert featuring Quartet SISLEY on January 7. Quartet SISLEY played uplifting music including well-known classical pieces and their own original compositions, which helped everyone get into the festive mood of the New Year holidays.  Throughout the evening, the members of the quartet engaged the audience in a friendly dialog about their music. The concert hall was filled with the warm glow of their beautiful music.

Report on Counselling for Asylum Seekers in Detention

An ISSJ social worker visited Ushiku Immigration Center with an interpreter on 9 December. We met 6 asylum seekers and did counselling for around one hour each.

Lecture at “the 44th Frontier of Social Welfare seminar”

Mieko Ishikawa, General Director and Yuko Enomoto delivered a lecture about family based care for children who are in need of social care at the seminar which was held by Rikkyo Univiersity Institute of Social Welfare.
