Our Policy

Growing within a family

We believe that children should grow up in a warm and loving home, and we support adoptions so that children are able to grow within a family.

Respect For Decision-making

We provide counselling to help birth parents respect the decision to care for their children.

For The Best Interests Of The Child

ISSJ’s adoptions are in the best interest of the child and we think adoptions are for those children who need family. We follow the 1993 Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption. The fees paid by prospective adoptive parents are used to cover the costs associated with the adoption and not for-profit adoptions.

Intercountry Adoption Is Considered As a Last Resort

Only if a suitable family is not found in their original country, then we take inter-country adoption into consideration to provide a permanent home for the child.

Respect The Right To Know Their Origins

ISSJ recognize adoptee’s right to know and we consider tracing service a part of adoption.

We Work With The Relevant Authorities

We provide support not only for special adoptions, but in a wide range of areas, such as status of residence, nationality, and repatriation/family reunification for children of foreign nationality who are under social care.As the Japanese branch of the International Social Service (ISS), a global social welfare network headquartered in Geneva, we also provide consultations on the various issues

International Adoptions

We believe that children should grow up in a warm and loving home, and support adoptions to make that happen. We also place great importance on the counseling of birth parents, to help them explore options other than adoption. We consider international adoption to be a last resort if a suitable adoptive family (adoptive/foster parents) cannot be found in the child’s country of origin. In doing so, our top priority will be to protect the best interests and rights of the child.
