Internship Program for Social Work Students
ISSJ offers an internship program for college students majoring in social work. We believe that it is one of our essential activities to provide an opportunity for the prospective social workers of the coming generation to learn about ISSJ's work through actual practice. Through our internship program, we hope that students will learn how to realize their ideology they have gained in the classroom in the actual field of social work and increase their interests and understanding in international social work activities. Furthermore, we believe that it would improve the quality of social work professionals in the future.
One of the interns we recently had was born and raised in a foreign country and has two nationalities. This intern stated that her internship at ISSJ was truly a learning experience as she could understand the backgrounds of ISSJ's teen-age clients because of the similar experiences she has had. After graduating from college, this intern was planning on going to a graduate school in the U.K. and major in international child welfare. Another intern who had been active in volunteer activity for the people of the third world countries, showed much interest in ISSJ's service for refugees and was searching for how he could reflect his experiences in the developing country in his future life.
