Assistance and Counseling Service for Refugees and Asylum Seekers
(Consigned by UNHCR)
ISSJ is contracted and sponsored by UNHCR in providing counseling service and assistance for recognized refugees and asylum seekers in Japan. Since the late 80's, there is an increase in the number of refugees from Asian and African countries (besides three Indo-China Countries; Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos) who enter Japan seeking protection. Those people left their mother countries to escape the persecution because of their racial extraction, religion, nationality, political principles, and/or ethnic background.
Those people are referred to ISSJ as individual refugees after they applied for refugee status at Ministry of Justice and sought for assistance at UNHCR. Our service for refugees and asylum seekers include finding job and residence, introducing medical services, accompanying to concerning organizations as translator, Japanese lesson, and orientation for daily living skills.
