Assistance for Children with No Nationalities and Unregistered Children, Repatriation, and Other Services besides adoption

As the number of foreign residents and international marriages has increased in recent years, the number of families and individuals who need assistance in solving their difficult issues involving over two countries has greatly increased as well. By utilizing international networks and specialized professional knowledge in social work, ISSJ provides aids in such various cases as children with no nationalities, repatriation of the children born of mothers who have overstayed in Japan, dispute over child-custody between the parents of different nationalities, and coordination of a reunion of adopted child with biological parents. There is a growing sense of crisis in ISSJ recently concerning the issue of children who have no nationalities or who are unregistered. The children who have no birth certificates or nationalities are those who are born of foreign mothers in Japan and their births are not registered at any concerning public office. Although the number of those children is not precisely known at this point, it can be assumed that it is not a small number. Since ISSJ stands for the protection of children's rights, we make our best efforts in registering those children and finding permanent treatment for them by securing their status
