Having
finished the completion report of the annual program for the fiscal year 2000,
we received an allotment of "contribution relating to International
Volunteer Savings of Postal Services Administration" since July 2001.
In Fiscal Year 2000, we conducted an oral survey of the residents of Chamroeunphal
Village. Taking into account the change of the present life style of villagers
from the beginning of the program started by ISSJ, we aimed to investigate
the needs of the villagers to consider what ISSJ should do with Phtea Nhor
Nhim in order to meet their needs. Chamroeunphal Village consists of 6
groups, and each group consists of about 100 families. The local staff went
to each group area after due arrangement with group leaders. We put a desk
by the roadside and when the local staff started preparation, the villagers
came by twos and threes to gather around the desk and the survey started smoothly.
The survey proceeded in this natural way based on the mutual trust between
the local staff and the villagers.
As
a result of the survey, it was found that there is a need for English education,
and we started English classes in the Phtea Nhor Nhim from this fiscal year.
Those parents who send their children to Phtea Nhor Nhim want their children
to learn English and to have a good job in the future. The poverty of the
villagers seemed to be reflected in the wishes of the parents for their children,
which made us feel the serious reality of the village.
The terrorism in the U.S.A. raised tension all over the world. An armed conflict
with blood relations is going to occur. In such world circumstances, we would
like to contribute to mutual understanding and cooperation through the groundwork
such as Phtea Nhor Nhim.
